The present Ph.D. Thesis deals with the Kyiv graphics within the late 50s - early 70s and detects its stylistic identity. Early creation of the outstanding Ukrainian graphic artists, namely: G. Yakutovych, S. Adamovych, O. Danchenko, O. Gubarev, I. Selivanov, A. Bazylevych, V. Kutkin, N. Lopukhova, G. Malakov, G. Zubkovsky is being considered. Easel graphics and book illustrations of the artists mentioned are being analyzed here. Advent of stylistic identity traits in Kyiv graphics is, first of all, explained by a community of problems which young artists were solving, i.e. the graphic art renovation and reformation, restitution of the graphics status as an independent and original fine art. As a result, the artists adverted to relief printing techniques, namely, linoegraving and xylography. Lincut stylistics affected other graphic techniques applied at that moment, i.e. drawing in Indian ink, drawing in flomaster, etc. A new graphic art became more laconic, more expressive and more decorative. Artists rejected linear perspective, made their works space a plane one; a few viewpoints were united in their single image. The rhythm and the line were of special importance and of specific melodiousness. Color application was also purely decorative. It just emphasized an image conditional character and could be of some symbolic sense. Enthusiasm for native history and ethnography influenced not only topics selection but also work stylistics. Young artists in their search were guided by the ancient printer engravings as well as by folk art. Ukrainian graphics golden age concurs with revived interest for a book art. Trying to get a real assembly of edition, to unite harmoniously all its components - text and illustration firstly - young artists are working hard and efficiently in the given sphere. Ukrainian graphics of the late 50s - early 70s definitely faces its modern trend in the Ukrainian movies. It was called a "poetic surge".
