Berehovska K. The Artistic Legacy and Works of William Kurelek (environment, archetypes, stylistics).

The dissertation presents a comprehensive analysis of the painting heritage of the Canadian-Ukrainian artist Vasyl Kurelek. To solve this scientific problem, a number of methods were used: historical, iconographic, iconological, empirical, methods of analysis and synthesis, hermeneutics and semiotics, comparative and phenomenological methods and the method of formal and stylistic analysis. The dissertation emphasizes the main sources of formation and development of V. Kurelek 's creative personality and analyzes the cultural and artistic environment that influenced the formation of his worldview and artistic positions: the Ukrainian environment of first immigrants in Western Canada, Mexican society (San Miguel Alende School in Mexico, English). (treatment, education) and the multicultural environment of Eastern Canada. The Ukrainian identity and the influence of folk art and folklore on the formal and plot-content outline of his works are outlined. On the basis of the analyzed works on emigration, parallels and intersections of relations between Ukrainian and other emigrant groups through the author's prism of understanding and observation of their traditions, culture, as well as their process of cultural integration into Canadian society.
