The dissertation deals with the analysis of scientific and pedagogical heritage of V.Sukhomlynsky. His contribution to the theory and practice of teaching Ukrainian literature in secondary school is defined. V.Sukhomlynsky's views on the specific character of Ukrainian literature as an academic course are presented. The influence of teacher's personality on pupils learning Ukrainian literature is revealed. Teacher's requirements to the fiction work analysis are characterized. Peculiarities of identifying pupils' reading interests work analysis are characterized. Peculiarities of identifying pupils' reading interests and ways of working with a text are defined. Educational value of written works in Ukrainian literature and their system in V.Sukhomlynsky's practice are described/ The use of pedagogical views of the Teacher in modern school practice is described. New documents that cast light on life and pedagogical activities of V.Sukhomlynsky are supplied to academic circulation.
