The thesis highlights the strategies of reproducing genre and stylistic peculiarities of the medieval epic poems on the basis of Slovo o polku Ihorevim and its Anglophone translations. The first chapter "Genre and Stylistic Peculiarities of the Poem Slovo o polku Ihorevim in the Diachronics of Translation" discusses genre peculiarities of the medieval heroic epos and the problems arising while translating a chronologically remote literary work. The literary and folklore systems of genres are considered, the blend of which creates the double unity of the art of language. The form of heroic epic poem, the style of narration, the conditions and time of its creation are briefly described. Different hypothesises, as to the genre nature of Slovo o polku Ihorevim are discussed. This chapter concentrates on the multiplicity of the work's translations as an agent of variable reproduction of genre and stylistic peculiarities of the source text. The diachronics of the translation is demonstrated on the basis of Anglophone translations of Slovo o polku Ihorevim (Anglophone Sloviana).
