The thesis highlights the issues of representing gender identity of the subject of women's poetic discourse in translation. The analysis is based on English translations of Ukrainian poems of Lesya Ukrainka, Olena Teliha, Lina Kostenko, Oksana Zabuzhko. Women's poetry, represented in the thesis, is analyzed in translations of P.Cundy, V.Rich, K.Andrusyshen and W.Kirckonell, O.Evach, P.Tempest, G.Evans, T.Botting, I.Zheleznova, M.Skrypnyk, Z.Orionna, M.Naydan, D.Struk, V.Reuter, V.Zhak, A.Horbatch, B.Varkhomiy, A.Melnychuk, L.Sapinkopf, D.Smitt, V.Tkatch and W.Phipps. The thesis is the first comprehensive study of gender issues of poetic translation on post-soviet terrain, highlighting aspects of gender identity in poetic translation, gender marked elements at various poetic levels, value of gender component in the poetic translation. The principal difference of the given research from existing gender studies in the field of literary theory and translation is its non-feminist methodology with the focuson implicit gender marked semantics.
