Essay

The dissertation highlights the ways and methods of reproducing allusions in prosaic texts of British and American writers in Ukrainian translations. Various strategies of translating allusions are analyzed in terms of their effectiveness in revealing the authorial conceptual purposes and intended meaning. The optimal implementation of strategies in translating allusions in a literary work is discussed and weighed. The necessity of expanding the translator's philological erudition is also highlighted. Various techniques of reproducing allusions are studied on the material of Ukrainian translations of British and American novels and short stories written by A. Christie, F. S. Fitzgerald, J. Fowles, J. Galsworthy, G. Green, E. Hemingway, O. Henry, A. Huxley, D. H. Lawrence, W. S. Maugham, J. D. Salinger, L. Sanders, M. Spark, R. P. Warren done by Y. Ivanov, V. Legkostup, O. Logvynenko, O. Mokrovols'kyi, V. Mytrofanov, A. Mulyar, P. Nasada, M. Pinchevs'kyi, V. Ruzhyts'kyi, O. Terekh, V. Vyshnevyi and others. The research consists of an introduction, four chapters, conclusions, a list of references and an appendix.
