The theoretical theses of the origin and development of teacher education in Ukraine, and in Chernihiv region in particular, in the second half of the 19th - at the beginning of the 20th century have been grounded; the premises of the origin of Nizhyn Institute as an educational establishment that deals with professional teacher training during 1875-1917 have been investigated.
