Essay

The dissertation deals with the questions of the evolution of spatial and scenographic systems in the Ukrainian theatre. The problem is examined on the example of two correlated theatrical phenomena that formed the image of the Ukrainian drama theatre. These are the so-called 'coryphaei' theatre and the theatrical 'archipelago' created by Les' Kurbas comprising related phenomena of the "Young Theatre" (Molodyj Teatr) (1916-1918), the "Berezil' Artistic Association" (1922-1926) and the Kharkiv "Berezil'" Theatre (1926-1933). The analysis of spatial and scenographic systems in the Ukrainian theatre during the Modernism period accomplished in this investigation allowed to track the evolution of theatrical space as a basic theatrical system.
