Starovoitova C. Archetype of the Mother in Modern French Drama: Linguistic and Cognitive Aspects

The dissertation focuses on linguistic and cognitive peculiarities of lexical means used to verbalise the archetype of the mother in modern French drama. Such notions as "archetype", "concept" and "dramaturgic discourse" have been defined in the dissertation within the framework of cognitive poetics. The author of the thesis has outlined the associative space of the primary concept of the MOTHER, which realises the archetype of the mother in modern French drama. The research highlights the role of the primary metaphor and metonymy in forming up metaphorical and metonymical models and their functioning in texts of French drama. The analysis also focuses upon the groups of lexical units that represent the woman-mother in the French-speaking communities. The author has compiled the list of the attractor lexemes, which serve to denote the archetype of the mother and aim at creating the emotional feedback of the drama works of art recipients. The author has established textual concepts, which serve as components of the megaconcept of the MOTHER in the French dramatic discourse of today. As a result of the analysis the author of the dissertation has given a detailed description of the dominant components of the archetype of the mother in the compositional structure of the contemporary French dramatic works.
