Essay

The object of the research is education as social and phi-losophical phenomenon dependent on the peculiarities of modern social and cultural environment. The purpose is to reveal the conceptual grounds of western educational para-digm transformation. The methods of research combine the complex of philosophical, scientific and special methods, which provide the unity of social and philosophical analysis. The main results include: it was shown that the modern west-ern educational space contains reproductive and conservative as well as progressive and humanistic paradigms; it was grounded that the leading trends of educational moderniza-tion combine the global tendencies of social development as well as spiritual and cultural traditions; is was shown that nowadays education is the basis for overcoming global chal-lenges of modern civilization as well as fundamental factor of sustained development of society and preservation of its ho-meostasis.
