Essay

The thesis concentrates on the asymmetry in Ukrainian translations of modern English and American drama, its ontological features, functioning and aesthetic purposes. The notion "adequacy frame" is introduced to define the conformity of drama translation with the author's initial intentions. Types of asymmetry are further classified into asymmetry with added, neutral relevance and irrelevance to characterize the translator's deviations from the original text and the author's intentions.
