The object - home education in Ukraine (the first half of the Х?Хth century); the aim - to reveal theoretical problems and family tutors' practice in the system of home education in the first half of the Х?Хth century and to offer some scopes of creative usage of family tutors' experience in modern conditions; the methods - theoretical, empiric; the novelty - the viewpoints of foreign and native teachers on the organization of home education have been methodized for the first time, the genesis of home education has been revealed, the stages in the development of family tutors as professional teachers' practice have been substantiated scientifically, the specific character of the normative basis of home tutors' practice has been revealed and characterized, the contents of home education has been analyzed, the most common methods and organizational forms of home teaching and upbringing have been defined; the results - the main conclusions have been used in the work of author's special course "Home education in historical aspect" for scientific self-work of master's courses' students of higher pedagogical educational establishments.
