The object of the research is portrait and int?rieur descriptions in N.V. Gogol's poem "The Dead Souls"; the aim of the research is to define the role of subjective modality in forming comic descriptive contexts, to reveal characteristic features of realizing subjective modality connected with the choice of language means in portrait and int?rieur descriptions in N.V. Gogol's poem "The Dead Souls"; the methods of the research are contrastive, descriptive and analytical, contextual analysis and associative and conceptual analysis; the novelty of the research lies in the fact that for the first time a complex wholesome research of subjective modality in portrait and int?rieur descriptions in N.V. Gogol's poem "The Dead Souls" is conducted and ways and means of realizing subjective modality in the above mentioned text are revealed; the results of the research are that understanding of realization of subjective modality is specified, it is proved that a characteristic feature of realizing subjective modality in portrait and int?rieur descriptions in N.V.
