Object – of research is foreign and native pedagogy of the end of the XIX – the first third of the XX century; the subject matter of the research is the development of theory and practice of schoolchildren self-government in pedagogy of the end of the XIX – the first third of the XX century; aim of research - the aim of dissertation lies in ascertaining and grounding the peculiarities of theory and practice of schoolchildren self-government in foreign and native pedagogy of the end of the XIX – the first third of the XX century; Methods of research - historical and pedagogical analysis of pedagogist-reformers’ writings, journalistic sources and official papers that provided corpus data for the study; systems analysis of pedagogic views that involved the problems schoolchildren self-government of the end of the XIX – the first third of the XX century; methods of systematization and generalization in order to single out, compare and contrast different views on the subject matter of the research; historical and comparative analysis that allowed to contrast the views of representatives of different trends in foreign and native pedagogy and reveal the general and specific; scientific novelty of the achieved results lies in the fact that for the first time: the analysis of the process of schoolchildren self-government in foreign and native pedagogy of the end of the XIX – the first third of the XX century is done; the peculiarities of approaches and ways to interpreting the problem of self-government are revealed.
