The dissertation focuses on complex cognitive onomasiological analysis of gastronym motivation in Modern French. The motivation relations of the onomasiological structure and semantics of French gastronyms and the fragment knowledge about the designated object have been defined. In the thesis methods of cognitive onomasiological analysis of French gastronyms have been substantiated, different motivation concepts and their typologization principles have been analyzed, dictum propositional, associative terminal and precedent motivation types have been characterized, cognitive correlations of French gastronyms of mixed motivation type have been highlighted, the axiological characteristics of the motivation of the object under research have been described.
