Essay

This dissertation focuses on revealing the specificity of narrative space organization in literary works by a contemporary French author Francoise Sagan viewed from narrative, semantic, cognitive and communicative perspectives. Peculiarities of narrative structure of the novelist’s literary texts have been singled out and analyzed. The role of focalization and its varieties in the narrative space of F. Sagan’s fiction has been elucidated. Lexical, morphological and syntactical means employed in the unfolding of conceptual information in different types of narrative have been specified. It has been determined that the narrative space of F. Sagan’s literary works becomes a plane of unfolding the conceptual spaces of extra- / intraheterodiegetic and extra- / intrahomodiegetic nar-ratives which form the conceptual megaspace of her prose. By singling out narrator and personage subjective speech planes in F. Sagan’s fiction a typology of characters’ interior speech actualization patterns has been outlined with regard to its structure and semantics.
