Ivanova N. Lexico-semantic adaptation, sense development of English borrowings and their reflection in the Russian periodicals issued in Ukraine.

The objects are new English borrowings in Russian at the end of the 20th - beginning of the 21st centuries. The aim is to reveal and to analyze the features of structural, semantic and functional adaptation and sense development of English borrowed lexical units in Russian. The methods are descriptive, distributive analysis, comparative, component analysis, statistical, morpheme analysis, word-building analysis. The main ways and mechanisms of the process of borrowing are analysed in this work. Lingual and extralingual factors which predetermine the process of borrowing were also singled out. We defined the morphological structure of English borrowings as well as their word-building potential on the basis of the target language. The segments of the Russian linguistic world image which contain the greatest number of English borrowings were characterised in the dissertation. Changers in the lexico-semantic structure of the borrowed lexemes in the Russian context were analysed. We also revealed the peculiarities of their functioning in the materials belonging to different styles. Application sphere is training courses.
