Essay

The thesis investigates the historical and pedagogical aspects of the development of the aim-centred component of teaching foreign languages in Ukraine (30's of the XX-th century - the beginning of the XXI-st century). On the basis of the analysis of scientific and pedagogical literature as well as methodical literature and official documents the stages of development of the aims of foreign language teaching are defined. Both peculiarities and tendencies of this development are singled out. They are outlined in the context of forming foreign language education contents. Correlation of foreign education contents with the aims of teaching foreign languages is revealed. The paper highlights the peculiarities of the development of the general secondary education contents within the period of the 1930's - the beginning of the XXI-st century. The essence of the traditional aims of foreign language teaching has been analyzed. The thesis studies formation of the pupil's competences which build up his intercultural communicative competence. The expediency of formulating the aims of foreign language teaching within the competence-based educational paradigm is scientifically substantiated. The materials of the research paper can be implemented in building school theory and practice. They can be also used in the process of professional training of future foreign language teachers, working out school curricula and text-books.
