Object: the educational process in orphanages (the second half of the 19th – the beginning of the 20th century); objective: to define the content, forms and means of providing social adaptation of the children from orphanages in the second half of the 19th - the beginning of the 20th century; methods: specified research method; the method of synthesis, systematization and classification of archive sources and literature; research and bibliographical method; historical retrospective review; novelty: the content, forms and means of social adaptation of orphans and children deprived of parental care in orphanages in the second half of the 19th – the beginning of the 20th century have been determined for the first time; the tendencies of the establishment and development of social institutions for the guardianship over destitute children have been revealed; the results: 1 in the process of working out modern models of social adaptation of orphans and children deprived of parental care; 2) have been introduced into the educational process in the teaching programs “The theory and history of social education“, “Social and educational measures of offence prevention”, “Social pedagogics" in the hight school; field - social pedagogics.
