Essay

The dissertation deals with transformation of artistic style in artistic practice (from Middle Ages to postmodernism). Terms "style" and "great style" are defined more precisely in the investigation (the interpretation of artistic style as an aesthetical phenomenon is being stressed upon). The dissertation reveals the potential of style's analysis in defining the aesthetical value of an art object. It is demonstrated, that artistic style is kept in artistic practice of modernism and postmodernism at the level of manner.
