Kovalev E. The Lyceum of Richelieu in the social and cultural processes of Southern Ukraine (the first and second third of the XIX-th century)

The thesis is dedicated to the history of Richelieu's Lyceum (Odessa). The role of Lyceum as a scientific, cultural and social institute in the region of Northern Black Sea Coast is analyzed in various aspects as well as the life of society of Southern Ukraine. According to the investigation we can conclude that sources used to study the history of Lyceum are known to be the next: normative acts, materials of record keeping, the periodical press, statistical materials and scientific studies. The historiography of problem contains a few researches of separate questions, and summarizing works are not present. It is important that a foundation of Lyceum should have been done due to personality of Richelieu with purpose to support and develop elite education in Ukraine. The main trends of Lyceum's activity are shown in their relations with social, economic and political situation in the region in 10 - 20-s XIX c. It is proved that there were the first projects to reform the Lyceum into University in 40 - 50-s XIX c. it seemed to be a natural and regular process. It should be noticed that reform process had been lasting since 1857 until 1865. In spite of negative facts according to transformation of Lyceum into Novorosiya's University there were fundamentals for high education on the Lyceum's base in Odessa. To sum it up, we can conclude that the Lyceum played the leading role in socio-cultural processes in the South of Ukraine.
