Essay

The dissertation provides periodization of Dmitriy Rostovskiy’s pedagogical and educational activity for the fist time in the national studies on the History of Pedagogy. The unity of traditionality and innovationality of hierarchal school of mixed type, which was established by him and combining general and special education, has been substantiated. Didactics principles, forms and methods of teaching are revealed. Prelate’s views on the process of person’s upbringing, its principles (upbringing’s continuity, its compliance with person’s age, gradualness and systematicness, unity of upbringing and self-education), conditions, rules, means, ways of upbringing (orthodox, ethical, intellectual, aesthetic, labour a physical), general and specific forms, methods and techniques of person’s upbringing have been reconstructed in our thesis. It has been also proved that creation of unique educational sphere which integrated, extended and implemented his pedagogical ideas in practice was the main cause of efficiency of Dmitriy Rostovskiy’s educational activity. Influence of D.S. Tuptalo’s pedagogical ideas on pedagogical theory and practice of education of further periods has been discovered, their currency at the present stage of Ukrainian state’s and national Pedagogics’ development has been also proved, the ways of their implementation in pedagogical practice have been outlined as well.
