Krombet O. Phonographic and Semantic Adaptations of Lexical Loanwords in the French language (A Study of the 16th Century Short Stories)

This dissertation focuses on revealing phonographic and semantic peculiarities of lexical loanwords in the French language, taken from short stories by the French Renaissance authors, such as Marguerite de Navarre, Bonaventure des P?riers, Jean Flore, No?l du Fail and Fran?ois B?roalde de Verville. A comparative description of vocalic and consonantal systems of the Proven?al, Latin, Italian and Spanish languages in the 16th century has been made, highlighting basic divergences between phonemes and graphemes of the source languages. The factors that predetermined the interrelation between the French language and Ancient (Latin, Greek, Hebrew), Romance (Proven?al, Italian, Spanish) languages, as well as Germanic ones during the Renaissance period are established; the role of cultural influences on the development of the French lexical system is elucidated.
