Baranova N. Educational, charitable and missionary activity of the Kiev and Galych metropolitan Platon Gorodeckyi (1882-1891)

In dissertation on the basis of deep analysis of large number of sources was investigated missionary, educational and charitable activity of the Kiev metropolitan Platon Gorodeckyi and him ideological and practical contribution to development of the Kiev diocese. Elucidative activity of metropolitan Platon, his participation in the work of educational establishments of spiritual and society direction, scientific associations, to the individuals in their literary and scientific activity is determined. Basic constituents and features of charitable activity of metropolitan Platon are determined on the example of his collaboration with establishments of medical, correctional direction, orthodox societies and fraternities, churches and monasteries. His help is separately considered to the requiring individuals. Basic directions, character, forms and methods of missionary labour of metropolitan Platon Gorodeckyi, are analysed in dissertation. This activity was directed for development of internal and external missionary work. The metropolitan's missionary policy was based on the peaceful measures of influence and resulted in the improvement of religious situation and in the establishment of interconfessional consent. Generalized experience of activity of the Kiev metropolitan Platon Gorodeckyi on the missionary, educational and charitable directions with the purpose of distribution and using of him on the modern stage.
