Essay

The dissertation deals with the problem in-service education for teachers in Great Britain. The work reveals the essence of the concepts of "lifelong learning" and in-service education on the basis of the many sources in history, theory and practice. Besides, the theoretical analysis of the phenomenon of in-service education for teachers in Great Britain is carried out; a new approach to the organization of in-service education for teachers in Great Britain - Continuing Professional Development - is characterized; the content, forms and methods of INSET in Great Britain in 1990-s - the beginning of the 21st century - are analysed; the criteria of the effectiveness of teachers' Continuing Professional Development in Great Britain are determined; the standards of teachers' professional development in Great Britain are investigated; the peculiarities of the newly-qualified teachers' support are represented.
