Essay

This thesis focuses on the study of syntactic derivation in the Spanish language in its structural, semantic, communicative and functional aspects. Regarding derivation as a process of secondary signs formation in a language has enabled to single out structural semantic models of syntactic derivates pertaining to the structures of primary, secondary and latent predication, as well as determine the regularities of their functioning in communicative situations. Systemic functional analysis of syntactic derivates as economical structures of the Spanish syntax has been carried out. A paradigmatic approach to systematizing of syntactic units has provided the definition of the complex sentence as a basic pattern for the formation of simple extended sentences. Communicative units that constitute the functional semantic field of conditional relations have been singled out and their place in the derivational paradigm of the Spanish sentence has been elucidated.
