Stefurak E. The Conceptualization of Space in the Semantics of Prepositions of French and Romanian languages

The thesis focuses on the linguistic conceptualization of space in the semantics of French and Romanian prepositions. A number of universal characteristics inherent in linguo-cognitive meaning of the studied prepositions are established, namely: delimitation of statics and dynamics of spatial relations, representation of space as a geometric schematization, interpretation of locative situations, marked by French and Romanian prepositions according to certain functional-pragmatic characteristics associated with human common knowledge and understanding of physical, perceptual and social human interaction with space. The research also establishes certain language-specific characteristics of the concept of space, lexicalized by French and Romanian prepositions, which consist in the degree of detailization of some common for French and Romanian spatial concepts.
