Molodozhenya O. Genetic and Strategic Types of Language Play (A Study of Spanish-Language Fiction and Media Discourses)

This thesis focuses on the study of genetic and strategic types of language play in Spanish-language fiction and media discourses. The research establishes the status of the phenomenon of play in different theoretical fields of scholarship and provides the definition of the notion language play. The elaborated methodology of language play classification enabled to elucidate the origin of this phenomenon, single out the factors that predetermine its occurrence and carry out an experimental study of their influence on the discourse interpretation. Functional particularities of language play’s strategic types have been revealed, including “language-behavior play”, pragmatic capacity of which has been established. Different means of expositional language play have been outlined along with their alternative forms, which have been experimentally testified.
