Essay

Object: educational movement and pedagogical thought in Taurida Governorate in the 2nd half of the 19th century; aim: to fulfil systemic analysis of pedagogical and educational activity of E. Markov, to actualize his scientific heritage from the point of actual Crimean educational system necessities; methods: theoretic, historical and logical analysis, synthesis of archive materials and printed sources on the problem, personal and biographic method, chronological and systemic method, problem and genetic method, axiological method; novelty: for the first time the data about E. Markov’s pedagogical activity in Taurida Governorate are got, complete analysis of his pedagogical, scientific and educational activities is conducted; main factors having formed his personality and pedagogical views are specified; basing on the analysis of archive materials, epistolary and scientific sources areas of E. Markov’s activity are singled out and stages of his pedagogical and educational activity are proposed (1st stage (1859-1862) – the beginning of the pedagogical activity, teaching in Tula men gymnasium; 2nd stage (1862-1865) – holding the position of Ministry of Education gymnasia inspecting officer in Tula Governorate; 3rd stage (1865-1870) – the Crimean stage: holding the position of Simferopol men state gymnasium and people’s colleges of Taurida Governorate, 4th stage (1870-1887) – scientific, pedagogical and administrative activity; 5th stage (1888-1903) – charity and social activity; E. Markov’s general pedagogical ideas about national education are specified; educational ideas in his heritage are shown; certain places, dates, reasons for dislocations during his professional activities are specified; the essence and directions of E. Markov’s pedagogical, scientific, educational, charity, local historical, social and literature activities are fleshed out; possibilities of using E. Markov’s scientific and literature heritage in contemporary secondary and high school are improved. The pedagogue’s input into the matter of Taurida Governorate national minorities secondary school system, gymnasia, state schools, women educational establishments development is shown, as well as his role in the progress of national ideology of educational movement in the 2nd half of the 19th century and general views on national minorities education in Taurida Governorate. Results: the materials of the investigation can be used in lectures and practical assignments on history of Ukraine, history of pedagogics, local history lessons, ethnology, theory and practice of education; in development of new approaches to educational work in universities – introducing tutors; in Ph. D. theses, diploma and course papers, writing conceptually new textbooks of local history regarding regional peculiarities; branch – general pedagogics and history of pedagogics.
