Object: activity of representatives of pedagogical opinion at the end of XIX – at the beginning of XX century; aim: analysis of Derkachev’ s pedagogical and education activity, scientific ground of the creative usage of his heritage in modern elementary school and pedagogical science; methods: theoretical, chronological, concretely searching, historically-structural, personally-biographical, retrospectively-historical, comparative, method of synthetic approach, observation; novelty: for the first time the information about Derkachev’ s pedagogical and education activity is presented in the context of the development of primary education; a complex analysis is done on concrete historical-pedagogical material, basic factors of forming Derkachev’s pedagogical world view are exposed and described (studying in Simferopol male school, Kharkov and Moscow universities, teaching at schools of Sevastopol, Simferopol, Kherson, Odessa, Elisavetgrad, acquaintance with works of foreign teachers); basic directions of Derkachev’ s pedagogical activity are theoretically grounded (pedagogical, educative, scientific-theoretical, methodical), public activity (civil, publishing, literary) and division into the periods of his pedagogical and education activity is presented (The I period – studying, forming of world view positions; II – formation of pedagogical ideas and looks, beginning of pedagogical and literary activity; III – an acquaintance with the system of education in Germany; IV – pedagogical activity in elementary schools of the Tavric province; V – educative, public and literary activity; VI – an acquaintance with the method of teaching in elementary school of England, stopping of pedagogical activity; VII – literary and publishing activity); the scientific Derkachev’s looks as for aims, tasks, principles and methods of teaching process at elementary school and training of pedagogical personnels are exposed; the role of Derkachev in activity of the first conventions of national teachers in Crimea is defined; the role of Derkachev in the decision of problems of primary education, composing of the textbooks for elementary school, their pedagogical maintenance and educational potential are described; possibilities of the usage of Derkachev’s didactics in practice of modern elementary school are improved; unknown and not popular sources are used in the process of scientific research, that is a considerable contribution to the development of pedagogical science.
