The thesis deals with the historical-pedagogical analysis of the adult education evolution in Canada, in the given research the periodization of the adult education evolution is worked out: the first period - the preparatory stage of adult education development (XVII - first half of XIX century), the second period - the initiation stage in the framework of industrial revolution (second half of XIX century), the third period - institutional stage (end of XIX - first half of XX century), the fourth period - stage of reforms (second half of XX century - the beginning of XIX century). The author has studied the development of the adult education concept in the Canadian pedagogical thought in different historical periods, defined psychoeducational peculiarities of an adult, studied the motivations for learning among adults actively engaged in lifelong learning, classified the educational barriers.
