Essay

Thesis is devoted to the study of biologically active substances in male buds of sea-buckthorn and the clarification of antioxidant, hepatoprotective and membrane-protective properties of an extract from them in an experiment on rats with modeling of acute tetrachloromethane and chronic (tetrachloromethane with alcohol) toxic hepatitis. A significant content of flavonoids, tannin agents and organic acids, vitamins C, P, carotenoids and also macro- and microelements was established in the foregoing raw materials of sea-buckthorn. The technology of the thick extract obtaining is offered. It was also proved that the thick extract of sea-buckthorn male buds is nontoxic according to the substances toxicity classification by Sidorov К.К. and refers to the 4th toxicity class of “relatively harmless substances” (LD50>15000 mg/kg). The studied extract doesn’t show ulcerogenic and local irritating action. In an experiment on animals with tetrachloromethane hepatitis a conditionally therapeutic dose was established – 100 mg/kg of animals mass. It was shown for the first time that in conditions of acute and chronic liver affection the extract from sea-buckthorn male buds manifests antioxidant, hepatoprotective and membrane-stabilizing features by slowing down the processes of lipids peroxidation, reducing the severity of cell-destructive processes and by restoring the functional activity of hepatocytes
