Essay

The thesis is dedicated to the elaboration of a new approach to model and evaluate the macroeconomic impact of carbon dioxide emission reduction. The theoretical foundations and a toolkit for modeling the abatement of industrial carbon dioxide emissions in Ukraine were elaborated. Developed by the author the applied general equilibrium model of Arrow-Debreu type permits to obtain the disaggregated assessment of changes in macroeconomic indicators resultant from imposing the limits on industry carbon dioxide emissions under taxation and emission trading; to simulate the trade of emission permits among the industries on domestic and international markets; to examine the possibilities to reallocate the proceeds from emission abatement; to evaluate the impact of emission reduction on industry competitiveness and to resolve a problem of selection of economic instrument for emission reduction.
