The object: the gymnasium education of the 19th – the beginning of the 20th centuries as a historical and pedagogical notion; the aim: holistic historical and pedagogical analysis of formation and developing of secondary gymnasium education in Crimea in the 19th – the beginning of the 20th centuries, scientific foundation of possibility to use this experience in reforming of contemporary educational system; methods: analysis, synthesis, systematization and classification of archival documents and printed sources, specifically, search, design and genetic, historical retrospective, historical, pedagogical, problem-genetic analysis, observational methods; novelty: the fact that firstly holistic historical and pedagogical analysis of formation and developing of secondary gymnasium education in Crimea in the 19th – the beginning of the 20th centuries was conducted on the basis of concrete historical and pedagogical material, which contributed intellectual and cultural development of people in the region, spreading of education and entering to higher educational establishments, precautions and stages of formation and developing of secondary gymnasium education in Crimea in the 19th – the beginning of the 20th centuries; objectives, content and forms of studying process in Crimean gymnasiums are analyzed and described in the paper; the essence of the concepts "gymnasium”, "gymnasium education” is improved. On the basis of data that has been obtained in the research unknown facts and documents about gymnasiums of the period are introduced into scientific use, that is a great contribution into the development of historical and pedagogical science; the possibility of using the described experience in reforming of contemporary educational system is developed; results: The results of the research give the facts for preparing new scientific works, books on pedagogy and history of pedagogy in the concept of domestic educational process; help to enrich historical and pedagogical knowledge, understand development of the gymnasium education in Crimea on purpose to holistically reproduce the peculiarities of peninsula education of the pre-Revolutionary period. The materials of the research can be used in teaching courses "History of Pedagogy”, "Pedagogy of Higher Education”, "Historical Countrystudy”, "Theory and Practice of Training”, "History of Ukraine” in higher educational establishments, in special seminars, courses on history of Crimean education, in a process of preparing students’ scientific qualifying works, in educational process in contemporary educational establishments; area: general pedagogy and the history of pedagogy.
