Object: the content of the domestic periodical pedagogical specialized editions of the second half of the 20th century; goal: to define the peculiarities and general tendencies of the interpretation of the problem of control of academic achievements of pupils in the Ukrainian specialized periodicals of the second half of the 20th century; methods: theoretical analysis of the scientific literature in philosophy, psychology, pedagogics, history of pedagogics, methods of systematization, periodization, statistic methods, the analysis of the original sources, comparative and historical method; novelty: we have grounded the existence and revealed the peculiarities of the distinctive stages in the interpretation of the problem of control of academic achievements of pupils in the Ukrainian specialized periodicals during the period from 1950 until 1999; the general tendencies of the interpretation of the problem of control in the pedagogical periodicals of the analyzed period have been defined; results: the methods of the analysis of the pedagogical periodicals as a source of historical and pedagogical research have been improved; field: general pedagogics and history of pedagogics
