This dissertation thesis is devoted to investigation of features of development netsuke's art from the late 19th to the early 21th century. Netsuke art evolution and its art's characteristics in 20 century were found during performed investigation. Art features of works of traditional direction in Japan and Western world were analyzed. The features of new trends of experimental netsuke appearance were elucidated in netsuke art, in particular the appearance of new themes was considered. Typology of netsuke of 20th century was found. This classification is traditional and contemporary trends; classical subjects, new "western" subjects, new transformations of traditional themes
