Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the analysis of scientific-pedagogical activity of the Ukrainian diaspora in the U.S. for the period of 1945-1991. It analyses the activities of Ukrainian school system "Ridna Shkola" under the leadership of the School Board at the Ukrainian Educational Council of America. For the first time in historical science the author traces the establishment of Ukrainian higher education in exile. The specific features of the scientific organizations of the Ukrainian diaspora in the U.S. such as Ukrainian Free Academy of Sciences, the Shevchenko Scientific Society, the Ukrainian Historical Society are highlighted. It is indicated that the development of education and science in the Ukrainian diaspora made it possible not only to preserve Ukrainian identity, but to increase the intellectual potential.
