This thesis offers a new approach to the semantics, structure, and pragmatics of the textual concept MEMORY in Patrick Modiano’s autofiction. A methodology for the complex analysis of this concept has been worked out. The concept MEMORY’ hierarchy has been viewed as a network of textual concepts with a reduced level of generality highlighting MEMORY as a central megaconcept that acquires the status of concept-constant. The research offers a pragmatic interpretation of the concept under study within the framework of the possible worlds theory and establishes the prominent role of syntactic markers in the process of the concept’s and its constituents’ verbalization.
