Essay

Thesis is devoted to the studying of the biologically active substances content in the mulberry black leaves and clarifying antioxidant, hepatoprotective, membranoprotective and hypoglycemic properties of the extract and tincture from the mulberry black leaves in experiments on animals with simulated toxic hepatitis and diabetes. It is also proved that the thick extract and tincture of the black mulberry leaves refer to the 6th toxicity class of “relatively harmless substances” (LD50>15000 mg/kg). In the experiment on animals with tetrachloromethane hepatitis a conditionally therapeutic dose of the thick extract from mulberry leaves was established – 150 mg/kg and of the mulberry leaves tincture – 0,2 ml/kg of animal mass. It was shown for the first time that under conditions of acute toxic liver affection the thick extract and tincture from black mulberry leaves manifest pronounced antioxidant, hepatoprotective and membrane-stabilizing properties. It is proved that under conditions of alloxan diabetes tincture of mulberry leaves improves absorption of glucose by cells and tissues of rats, ie, increases glucose tolerance and shows a moderate hypoglycemic action.
