Object - educational process in the domestic secondary educational institutions of the second half of XIX - beginning of XX century; the goal is based on the published materials and collected archival sources, analyze and summarize the theoretical ideas and the practice of development of economic knowledge of the students in the domestic educational institutions of the second half of XIX - beginning of XX century for the improvement of the process of teaching disciplines of the economic cycle in the modern school; methods of theoretical and statistical; innovation - the first theoretically justified the stages of formation and further development of the economic knowledge of the students in the domestic educational institutions of the analyzed period: 1860-1888 gg. - the stage of identifying the main economic knowledge of the students in the domestic educational institutions; 1889-1904 gg. - creation of the system of economic education of schoolchildren; 1905-1917 years,. - the stage of improving the economic knowledge of the students; the preconditions for the emergence and further development of the economic knowledge of the students in the domestic educational institutions of the second half of XIX - beginning of XX centuries; have received further development: the forms and methods of economic knowledge of the students in the structure of educational and vocational Russian school; results - study of the updating of the pedagogical ideas of the past, which have typological similarities with the modern conception of the development of the economic knowledge student youth.
