The research object is the Art education system in the Russian Empire (XIX - early XX century.); the research subject is the Art education development process in Left-Bank Ukraine during the second half of the nineteenth - early twentieth century; methods: historical facts and processes historical-and-logical analysis; periodization; systematization; scientific literature, archival sources classification in order to study and generalize the formation and organization experience of Art education in Ukraine; chronological-and-systematic and problem-and-search methods for the scientific justification of Art education emergence and evolution in Ukraine, in particular in Left-Bank Ukraine in XIX - XX centuries, problem-focused and comparative for archival documents, art-and-pedagogical, art criticism and scientific-and-methodological literature, periodicals editions analyzing of the period studied; content- analysis of documentary sources, archival materials, art achievements to identify Art education key trends, content, structure and form in Ukraine, especially in Left Bank Ukraine in the second half of XIX - early XX century; monographic in order to learn and generalize the artists teachers practical experience in the past to discover the artists teachers role and contribution in Art education in Ukraine and in the Left-Bank Ukraine in particular, problem-and-genetic analysis in order to justify the recommendations as for regarding the historical experience studied in realistic terms of Art education reformation and modernization processes in Ukraine; the research objective is to define the specific features and trends of Left Bank Ukraine Art education formation and development processes in the second half of XIX - early XX century, to discover the possibilities of Art education historical-and-pedagogical experience using within the up-to date conditions; the scientific novelty - for the first time the complete analysis is done on the ground of historical and pedagogical aspects, the leading ideas are systematized; the specific features of theory and practice of Art education organization and functioning in Left Bank Ukraine in the second half of the nineteenth - early twentieth century are revealed; the unknown and little known archival data are introduced in the scientific circulation that enrich modern knowledge about Art education in Left Bank Ukraine in the second half of the nineteenth - early twentieth century; the concepts "Art education", Art schools classification got further development and specification; the main formation and development stages of general and special Art education are grounded; the conceptual ideas as for general Art education improving and developing in Left-Bank Ukraine in the second half of the nineteenth - early twentieth century are analyzed; the special features of Art education in the leading educational institutions and professional art schools are revealed and generalized; forms and methods of practical-and-educational work in the system of Art education in Ukraine in the period studied are specified.
