The thesis deals with the topical issues of general pedagogy and history of pedagogy - training future teachers in the system of higher education in Great Britain. The state of development of the problem in the philosophical, psychological and pedagogical literature is analyzed in the paper. On the basis of the analysis of numerous sources in history, theory and practice of pedagogical education the essence of "training a teacher" concept in modern understanding is defined; а theoretical analysis of the phenomenon of pedagogical education in Great Britain is performed. А new approach to training future teachers in the system of higher education in Great Britain is characterized; the content, forms and methods of training future teachers in Great Britain are analyzed; the criteria of a modern British teacher are described, the standards of training future teachers in Great Britain are studied. Generalisations and justifications presented in the thesis research have allowed the author to creatively implement the British experience in social-pedagogical support of training future teachers in the system of higher education in Ukraine.
