Object - the process of education of young people in the second half of XX century; the aim - to systematize theoretical ideas and generalize the acquired experience of moral education of young people on the basis of retrospective analysis of domestic pedagogical periodicals of the second half of XX century in order to creatively use the achievements of the past in present day secondary educational establishments; methods- historical-pedagogical, theoretical, system-structural, problem-and goal-oriented, comparative; novelty - the research is the first to provide a comprehensive analysis of domestic pedagogical periodicals over an extended chronological period, the issues of moral education of young people discussed in the periodicals of the period under research have been analysed; the criteria that caused modification of goal, objectives, content, principles, forms, methods and techniques of moral education of young people discussed in the periodicals of the given period have been determined; the stages in presenting the views on the problem of moral education of young people in pedagogical periodicals of the period have been theoretically substantiated; the perspective for keeping and creative usage of pedagogically valuable ideas and practical experience of the past on moral education of young people in present day school practice have been defined; the definition of the term "pupils' moral education" as a goal-oriented moral consciousness forming, development of moral feelings, skills and habits of moral education of young people has been specified; the issues of education problem study discussed in the pedagogical periodicals of the second half of XX century have acquired further investigation ; results - the materials of the research are recommended for the usage in the teaching process of pedagogical higher education institutions in lectures on Pedagogy and History of Pedagogy, for writing course, diploma and Master's degree papers in higher pedagogical institutions of III-IV levels of accreditation; field - pedagogy.
