Object: educational and training institutions of the military profile in Ukraine (the middle of the nineteenth century - the beginning of the twentieth century) as a socio-historical phenomenon; purpose: the implementation of a comprehensive historical and pedagogical analysis of the educational institutions of the military profile in Ukraine (the middle of the nineteenth - early twentieth century); methods: the analysis, theoretical - synthesis, systematization and classification of archival documents and printed sources with the investigated problems, specifically exploratory method, structural and genetic method, historical retrospective method, historical and pedagogical methods, the method of interpretation and compilation of the materials studied, observational methods; novelty: it is the first time carried out a systematic historical and pedagogical analysis of the formation and development of educational institutions of the military profile in the context of the public education system in Ukraine (the middle of the nineteenth - early twentieth century). The methodology and the principles of military establishments of Ukraine as an independent unit in the education system of the Russian Empire were substantiated, the complete picture of the formation and development of the cadet corps, Suvorov military schools, military schools and high schools with reinforced military and physical training in Ukraine, since the mid XIX to the beginning of the XXI century, was reproduced; the historical background and the stages in the development of educational institutions of the military structure were disclosed; the types of institutions of military profile of Ukraine (the middle of the nineteenth - early twentieth century ) were characterized; the contents and the forms of organization, the features and the main directions of the educational process in the cadet corps of pre-revolutionary Russia, Suvorov military schools of the former Soviet Union, established on the territory of Ukraine, as well as in military high schools and high schools with reinforced military and physical training in Ukraine were disclosed; findings: based on scientific data obtained in the process of investigation new unknown and little-known documents and facts on the foundation and functioning of the educational establishments in Ukraine of military profile from the middle of XIX to the beginning of the XXI century were introduced into science. The essence of the concept of "educational institution of the military structure", the purpose, objectives and principles of the organization of educational work in the institutions of the military type of Ukraine in the study period were specified; area: general pedagogy and history of pedagogy.
