Skubij I. Trade in Kharkiv in the Years of NEP (1921 – 1929)

The object of the research – trade in Kharkiv in the years of NEP. The dissertation purpose: on the basis of the analysis of a wide circle of sources and literature to investigate the trade in Kharkiv in the years of NEP, its characteristic features in city, which occupied a conducting place in a national economy. The methods: the analysis, synthesis, generalization; a method of periodization, problem-chronological, comparative-historical, historical-system; methods of statistics, social psychology. Scientific novelty: the dissertation deals with the trade in Kharkiv in the years of NEP; the formation of trade management bodies and basic methods of trade state regulation in Kharkiv have been studied; the establishment of the state wholesale and retail trade has been investigated; the stages, causes and consequences of liquidation of the state retail company “Larek” in Kharkiv in the late years of NEP have been shown; the activity of Kharkiv stock trade company as a type of public entrepreneurship and its share in the market in Kharkiv has been discovered; the basic stages of trade activity of consumer cooperation have been analyzed; the place occupied by cooperation in the worker’s budget has been highlighted; attention has been paid to the insufficient number of cooperative stores in satisfying the needs of the population of Kharkiv during the last years of NEP; the features of the trade service in the cooperative institutions of the city have been shown; it has been proved that cooperation had become governmentalizеd by the end of NEP; the features of the private trade development in Kharkiv have been shown, with its place in the city trade turnover being identified; the reasons for origin and development of the contraband as a type of illegal trade have been analyzed; the significance of the deviant traits in the private trader’s behavior has been shown. Practical value of research: the materials of the dissertation can be used by preparation of courses of lectures on a history of Ukraine, in particular, of economic history, history of trade, state and private business, consumer cooperation, daily occurrence; the study of state regulatory politics in the years of NEP is necessary for definition of an optimum level of institutional influence on the participants of the market.
