Essay

The thesis deals with the problem of teaching tolerance to students of technical universities. On the basis of theoretical and empirical scientific results the pedagogical conditions of teaching tolerance to this group of students were proved. Among them there are organization of learner-oriented subject-subject interaction and creating the situations of cooperation and mutual trust; activating the students' interpersonal communication in academic groups by means of developing their ability to understand and accept themselves (reflexivity) and resist to external negative influences (emotional stability); activating the pedagogical efforts aiming to develop the students' ability to accept another person, the development of students' empathy and assertiveness. The essence of the notion "tolerance of the students of technical universities" is defined in the thesis. The functional model of teaching tolerance to students of technical universities was introduced. Its efficiency was experimentally proved by providing certain pedagogical conditions which imply the use of active forms and methods, including the training seminar "The Social Skills Stream of Tolerant Interpersonal Interaction" that stimulate the formation of tolerant consciousness, tolerant feelings and tolerant behavior of students.
