Skrylnyk S. Degrees of Interference in Literary and Non-literary translation.

The thesis carries out investigation into interference in translation. In linguistics and translation studies there are substantial discrepancies in the way linguists and translation critics treat interference both in translation and in language contact. The research tends to unify different approaches into one and defines the notion of interference in translation. Modern translatology has contributed much into the researches of inter-textual contacts. In particular, interference as a linguistic phenomenon in target texts of various genres and languages used to be analyzed. Translation studies defines “interference” as both negative and positive influence, which can either lead to misunderstanding or make it easier for a target audience to understand the source text in a target language. What is more important is the fact that the mistakes, which occur in a target text under the influence of a source one, prove to be a means of bringing two interacting texts and cultures closer to each other. A translator resorts to erroneous structures intentionally to reveal certain substantial subtleties of an original text in a target language.
