Sedlerova A. Lingual and extralingual context of V. Pidmohylny's translation heritage from French.

The thesis deals with V. Pidmohylny's translation activity in terms of lingual and extralingual contexts in 1920s - 1930s. V. Pidmohylny's translation activity is analysed within the framework of modern theories of language and creative translator's personality, hermeneutic circle, pragmatic and ideological approaches to translation. The paper proposes to study translation activity in terms of "translation studies circle". The influence of lingual and extralingual contexts on V. Pidmohylny's translation activity is examined. Taking into account the decisive influence of ideological factor on V. Pidmohylny's life, his creative activity was divided into two periods: 1920s (period of "ukrainization") and 1930s (period of "Great terror"). The interaction between two talents of V. Pidmohylny - those of a writer and a translator - is analysed in genre and conceptual spheres. V. Pidmohylny's own works and his translations are compared and presented in a chronological order.
