Essay

The object is the text in the Russian language textbooks as a special kind of text in the teaching discourse. The purpose is to research and describe structural, semantic, functional and pragmatic peculiarities of compressed texts in the structure of Russian language textbooks for secondary schools. The methods that were used are the following: descriptive, functional, structural, method of quantitative estimation, continuous sampling method, comparative stylistic method. There was researched in the dissertation the linguistic specificity of compressed texts' components in the Russian language textbooks. Textbooks' texts and their components have such text categories as integrity, coherence, segmentation, topicality, consistency, temporality, locality, assessment, composition. There exist a great deal of different text genres: primary and secondary, simple and complex, language and rhetorical. There were found in the texts of the Russian language textbooks such genres as: title, advertising slogan on the cover, annotation, contents, reference designations, figure captions, regular columns in the form of a table, tasks to the exercises and lexicographic words explanations, subtitles, brief reference section, text ellipsis, short expressions like proverbs, aphorisms, anecdotes, smiles, jokes etc. The sphere of application is teaching process.
