Essay

The pharmacological profile of the new complex biologically active compounds on the base of bis(µ-xylarate)dihydroxodigermanates with lithium, sodium and potassium (correspondently xygerm-1, -2 and -3) influences on intact animals behaviour as well as in neuropathological syndromes modeling were tested in the present work. Xygerm-3 revealed the most expressed anticonvulsive activity in conditions of both acute and chronic seizure activity and to predict efficacy in generalized clonic-tonic, drug-resistant attacks and absence epilepsy forms. It has been shown that course administration of xygerm-3 for 14 days was not observed neurotoxic effects and development of tolerance. Isobolographic analysis of xygerm-3 revealed its selective potentiation of classic antiepileptic drugs (carbamazepine, lamotrigine, sodium valproat et al.). Under the conditions of stereotyped patterns of behavior and brain self-stimulation xygerm-1 caused a marked dose-dependent antipsychotic effect. This determines the feasibility of further pre-clinical studies of these compounds as anticonvulsants and antipsychotics drugs.
